All players receive:
- A Concord Giants playing uniform including football shorts, socks and a training shirt to keep and a club guernsey for the footy season
- 16 week comp + training sessions, gala days and finals
- Weekly coaching from an accredited coach
- Auskickers receive an Auskick pack from the AFL

Where and when do you train?

How long is the season?

We start pre-season training in early March. Pre-season training is not compulsory as we recognise it can clash with summer sports, but it is recommended. Our season starts on Saturday 6 April 2024 and continues until late August/early September.

Do you play actual games, or is it just learning skills?

While some Auskick Centres run coaching clinics, all Concord Giants teams play actual games on Saturdays (for U5 to U11) and Sunday for our youth teams (U12-U17 and U12 Youth Girls).

In U5 to U10, it is non-competitive allowing children to learn the skills of the game in an environment that focuses on learning, participation and – most of all – fun. In U9 and U10, the season ends with competitive gala days.

In U11 and above, the competitive element is introduced, and scores are recorded throughout the season, with the top teams advancing to the finals series.

What time do games start?

The draw is released just before the start of the season, but generally U5s are first up on a Saturday at 8am, and the games are progressively later as the kids get older. Generally it is the same game time each week.

Times vary more for the Canada Bay Cannons teams (Under 12s and older) who play on a Sunday and could play in the morning or afternoon, depending on where they are playing.

Child Protection

The safety and protection of the children at our club is of utmost importance. All coaches and managers are required to provide a valid Working with Children Check clearance. If you would like further information on our child protection policy, please email info@concordgiants.com.au

Can girls play AFL?

AFL is a great sport for girls, and pathways for senior girls are improving all the time. Girls play alongside boys in all Concord GIANTS teams U5-U11. In U10 and U12, girls can choose to join a Youth Girls team, or continue to play alongside boys up to and including U14. Some girls do both!

Is it a contact sport?

While AFL is a contact sport, AFL at Auskick level (U5-U8) is completely non-contact, allowing children to learn the skills of the game without the tackling component of the game. Tackling is first introduced in U9 in a limited way, but full tackling is not allowed until older age groups.

Do I need to buy a uniform?

The uniform is included as part of the registration process. You’ll get shorts, socks and a training t-shirt. Game day guernseys are supplied by the Club and returned at the end of the season. Player need their own football boots.

What about mouthguards?

Mouthguards are optional in Auskick U5-U8 but compulsory in U9 and above.

Who coaches my child?

In most cases, coaches and managers are team parents. All coaches are required to undertake a coaching accreditation course, run by AFL NSW/ACT and paid for by the Club. All coaches and managers are required to provide a valid Working with Children Check to the Club.

We encourage all parents to participate in the running of the Club, which is solely run by volunteers. Whether that’s cutting oranges for half-time, helping out on the BBQ, or a regular commitment such as coaching, managing, or taking on an administrative role, we’d love to see how you can be part of our community.
